1948 LEICA IIIc SHARKSKIN nr MINT, with MATCHING'49 SHARKSKIN HEKTOR+SHOOC FINDER
VERY ORIGINAL1950 LEICA SHARKSKIN IIIc, nr MINT. With unusual MATCHING 1949 SHARKSKIN HEKTOR, 13.5cm, f/4.5. + MINT SHOOC 13.5cm FINDER, RED BOX, LENS TUBE, CASE, LITERATURE & 1949 FILM. Overall, this is an outstandingly original late’40s – early’50s period Leitz outfit. The limited-edition Sharkskin body (produced for two years only , 1948-50) is matched by an uncommon Sharkskin lens , and the literature comes in a 1950-dated Leitz envelope with a letter (not shown). There’s even a roll of early ANSCO color film , expired 1949 , I believe unused. A little maintenance is due (see below), but the IIIc body is in such unusually good cosmetic condition that it’s well worth it. 1950 LEICA IIIc SHARKSKIN #437892 has clearly seen very little use. I doubt this camera has ever had a strap on it. Cosmetically, the chrome & body are near perfect (late’40s and early’50s Leitz chrome was often of very poor quality). Very small mark on shutter release, hard to see, but otherwise I see NO marks whatsoever on the top plate or sides. One very small mark on the base by tripod mount, again not at all noticeable, and that’s about it. Sharkskin vulcanite is perfect , like new, no cracks, chips or hollow spots, deep black color. Slow speeds need adjustment (“B” & “T” are fine, but the rest are hanging up). Other speeds sound OK except 1/1000. Wind-on is smooth, diopter adjustment & release are working fine, blinds look to be in excellent condition. VF is clear and brilliant. Comes with chrome body cap, repro. 1949 13.5cm f/4.5 HEKTOR #700285 (meters), black/chrome, shows a little more wear than the body, but is still very nice. Lens front (uncoated) has some light cleaning marks, a few bubbles, no haze. Focus and iris operate smoothly, no oil on blades. Sharkskin covering is perfect. Original Leitz RED LENS TUBE is in pretty nice condition. Lens cap is generic, shows slight wear. SHOOC 13.5cm BRIGHTLINE FINDER (feet) is a beauty, clear, perfect frame lines, no haze, mint really. RED LEITZ PRESENTATION BOX is one of the best I’ve seen, near perfect inside and out. LEITZ HIGH TOP CASE has seen some slight repair but is generally in excellent condition. Allows a viewfinder to remain mounted. 3 BROCHURES (1949 IIIc Catalog , 1949 IIIc Instruction Book , 1952 Lens Brochure in German, plus a 1950 Letter) come in Leitz envelope postmarked 1950, all original and in very nice shape. THE UNUSED ANSCO COLOR FILM (expired June 1949) is a real bonus. As far as I can tell, it has not been exposed.
