932 LEICA II (Model D) EXPORT MODEL #81303. With 1932 11 o’clock f/3.5 5cm ELMAR #124223 (pin-release type). One of the best early black Leicas I’ve ownedit’s. Getting quite difficult to find these early Leicas in this kind of highly original condition. This is from the first year of manufacture, which started in February 1932, I’ve no doubt that the lens, also 1932, is original to the camera body. This camera has never been converted by the factory, or messed with in any way. It’s a genuine Leica II, just as it left Wetzlar in 1932. These early bodies have many differences from the later models closer to Barnack’s original design concept. They are less complicated, and as a result more attractive, I feel. There are no strap lugs, no slow speed dial, a larger speed dial, and no rangefinder diopter adjustment. The top shutter speed is 1/500th. The 11 o’clock shutter release infinity lock had a short run, it was replaced with the familiar 7 o’clock position by late 1932. Wording is all in English (baseplate, top plate accessory mount “Germany”), and tripod mount is the smaller diameterhence the “sport” designation. All controls are working as they shouldspeeds all sound correct; iris, focus and wind-on are smooth; A-R release is working correctly. The viewfinder is very bright, rangefinder is clear with two pretty distinct images and appears accurate. Thwe blinds look to be in great shape. Cosmetics Paint all is factory original, only the very slightest traces of use, no dings, no edge-wear, a few VERY light traces around tripod mount and on the lens cap. Body lettering is perfect. Body covering is completely intact, deep black, not faded, no loose or hollow sections, no chipping. Nickel is near perfect, too, hard to find, just a few light marks here and there. Lens tube is bright and shiny , any marks are very light. Lens glass has a few cleaning marks on the front, all slight, with a touch of haze inside, but should shoot fine. Lens cap is early metal type, a few light marks, but generally very good. It’s slightly loose on the lens front. Case shows wear but is correct for this era of Leica screw mount , i. No cutaway for slow speed dial. Nowadays it’s quite hard to find this early-type quick release case. Short strap has cracks and is quite worn, and the securing screw is later type and not retained in the case. Rear pop fastener is a bit weak, too. The November 1935 Leica NY Range Brochure is original, not a reprint, in very good shape except for a 1 tear on the lower part of the cover. Includes many cool period photos. The 11 o’clock lens adds to this stated value due to its rarity. The item “Black 1932 LEICA II (Model D), 11 O’CLOCK 5cm ELMAR, CORRECT CASE +1935 BROCHURE” is in sale since Thursday, April 25, 2019.
