Rare First Digital Camera Cromemco Cyclops Model 3301 S-100 Board 1976
RARE FIRST DIGITAL CAMERA CROMEMCO CYCLOPS MODEL 3301 S-100 BOARD 1976. Brand new in box Cromemco Cyclops Camera with original contents. Dated 1976, this was kept on a shelf from that year and never used. Contains the Model 3301 Camera, 88 CCC Board 1 To Cyclops, Schematic Diagrams, Instruction Manual, Assembly and Checkout Manual and other original diagrams. There are two plaques that have never been mounted on the camera that read Cyclops Digital Camera TM. This is an extremely rare piece of history that belongs in a museum. The Cromemco Cyclops , introduced in 1975 by Cromemco, was the first commercial all-digital camera using a digital. It was also the first digital camera to be interfaced to a microcomputer. The digital sensor for the camera was a modified 1 kb dynamic RAM (DRAM) memory chip that offered a resolution of 32 × 32 pixels (0.001 megapixels). The Cyclops Camera was developed by Terry Walker, Harry Garland, and Roger Melen, and introduced as a hobbyist construction project in the February 1975 issue of Popular Electronics magazine. One month earlier the MITS Altair 8800 microcomputer had been introduced in this same magazine. Les Solomon, technical editor of Popular Electronics, saw the value of interfacing the Cyclops to the Altair, and put Roger Melen (co-developer of the Cyclops) in contact with Ed Roberts (president of MITS) to discuss a collaboration. Roger Melen met with Ed Roberts at MITS headquarters in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Roger Melen formed a partnership with Harry Garland to produce the Cyclops Camera, and other products for the Altair computer. They named their new venture “Cromemco” after the Stanford University dormitory (Crothers Memorial Hall) where they both had lived as graduate students. In January 1976 MITS introduced the Cromemco Cyclops Camera as the first peripheral for the Altair Computer. We always pack with great care. Rare 1953 KODAK CHEVRON camera for 620 roll film (first year of production)
Rare 1953 KODAK CHEVRON camera for 620 roll film (first year of production). The serial number on the lens dates it to 1953, the camera’s first year of production. It uses 620 roll film and produces 2¼” x2¼” negatives. The camera is in very good condition with no dings or dents but it does show signs of its age with some small spots of aluminum corrosion in various areas (see photos). The 78mm f/3.5 Kodak Ektar lens is in excellent condition with no scratches fungus or cleaning marks. The “L” following the serial number indicates the lens was lumenized with a coating on its optical surfaces that reduces flare and hardens the surface for protection against scratches. It is mounted in a Kodak Synchro Rapid shutter which has a top speed of 1/800th of a second. All the shutter speeds sound accurate except for the 1/2 and 1 second speeds which often hang up requiring a nudge of the cocking lever to complete its cycle. The rangefinder is working properly with easy-to-line-up images and the helical focusing ring operates smoothly. The camera comes with its original Chevron lens cap and its original leather case. Unfortunately, the top section of the case is falling apart at its stitched seams and is unusable while the unstiched bottom half is fine but there is no tripod screw. This includes restrictions on any internet or website display, usage or transfer. Please check your country’s import regulations if you want to be informed about any additional charges that may be imposed on your package when it arrives. Please contact me if you’re interested in that service and I will let you know if your country participates in the Delcon tracking program. Only approved electronic methods will be allowed.
