Please read this carefully!!! Camera serial number 263943. Lens Serial Number 388931. You get a Leica III Rangefinder chrome body with 5cm f/2 Collapsible Summar lens. This camera and lens were made in 1937 in Wetzlar, Germany. You get the camera body, lens, lens cap and take up spool. These are the body and lens condition issues so PLEASE take the time to read ALL this information. The viewfinder is clean and the rangefinder is easy to see. The shutter works at the higher speeds, but sometimes sticks and all the lower speeds are sticking. The shutter will need a service. There are no dents. There are brightmarks on the top plate and baseplate. There is some brassing on the strap lugs and on the face of the slow speed dial. The first and second shutter curtains look clean. There are no chips in the leather but it needs a spot of glue on the front. There is a small space in the leather under the lens flange. The trim ring that surrounds the shutter release is missing. This does not affect anything. The lens has hexagonal diaphragm blades and the diaphragm works smoothly. The focus works smoothly and is marked in meters. The lens tubus shows obvious wear and is somewhat stiff to open and collapse. The glass is hazy and has some cleaning surface scratches. There is a trim ring on the shutter speed dial. This was part of a flash sync setup made for the pre F models. This will not affect the use of the camera in any way. The rear of the top plate has an engraving (professionally done) that say’s. There was something before the name but it has been erased. The 3rd image clearly shows this. Below is a brief history of the engraved name on the camera. In 1924, Geestemünde and the neighboring municipality of Lehe were united to become the new city of. And in 1939 Bremerhaven (apart from the overseas port) was removed from the jurisdiction of Bremen and made a part of Wesermünde, then a part of the Prussian. A fair overall grade is very average. The lens shows more use and it is below average. This was bought to be used and not collected, but of course now it is a collectible camera, but still an excellent camera to use if you service it.
