Leica IIIf red dial camera kit with collapsible 50mm Elmar + case and extras
This is an amazing camera. It’s built like a tank and also takes excellent pictures if you know how to operate it. I learned on this camera, and it’s really hard to let it go; however, I haven’t been using it as much lately, and this is certainly a camera that deserves to be used. Overall, it is in good condition for it’s age. There is some brassing around the edges of the camera and the strap lugs, but nothing that affects it’s use. The viewfinder is bright and clean, the rangefinder looks nice, also. It fires reliably at all speeds, and the shutter curtain looks to be in good shape. It also has the film take-up spool. The lens is a collapsible Elmar 50mm f/3.5 lens, and comes with a hard-to-find Helios UV filter that screws into the filter ring on the lens, no rigging a regular sized one. The filter itself can set you back 40 bucks as it’s a fairly uncommon size. There is brassing around the aperature ring, as pictured, and scratches along the barrel from being collapsed and expanded. It also is a little slow to focus at first, but it gets better when you move it a little, which a CLA would fix, but it’s still operational. The aperature ring moves smoothly, and the lens is pretty clean otherwise, some cleaning marks that won’t affect IQ. A pro looked at it and pointed out a small bit of haze around the very edge of the back element, visible when wide open, but I have never had any issues with it, myself. The case is the ever ready case with a red velvet interior. It’s not pristine, but it will keep it protected, and it has a classic look that you can’t get with new leather. There is a good amount of dust and pollen in the case, and it could probably be cleaned out with a vacuum with an upholstery attachment, but it never bothered me, so I didn’t. The VIOOH turret (LYRE look alike) is in beautiful cosmetic condition and fully functional. There is a little dust in the finder, but still very clear. The parallax correction also functions properly and comes with its own case. The cable release is a Nikon AR-2, and is in good condition. Has some blemishes on the chrome though. But it’s an indispensable tool if you ever need to do a longer exposure. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the item or its accessories!
