Super Rare Nikon Stereo-NIKKOR 1:3.5 3.5cm Lens 241929 & S2 Rangefinder Camera. Welcome to Musicdungeon, you are looking at an amazing piece. This is the Super Rare Nikon Stereo-NIKKOR 3.5/3.5 Lens. This is a truly historic piece, with a story of political protest and urban legend. By the 1950’s stereo photography, a technique that had been around for some time, had started a rapid decline in popularity. It was religated mostly to the consumer market of hobbiest and family vacationers. There was no commercial demand for a format requiring special viewers. However, austensibly to compete with Leica, Canon, and Zeiss, Nikon took to designing a pro-level, superb-quality stereo lens. And in December of 1956 the Stereo-NIKKOR 1:3.5 3.5cm Lens was released. A beautiful and effective lens, it created two 17x24cm images on a normal slide frame, this slight shift in perspective creating a 3 dimensional image when viewed with special’glasses’. The release of this stellar-quality lens coincided with an almost complete loss of the market for stereo photography, and by 1961 Nikon had stopped production at only 170 total units. If that were the end of the story, it would make this one of the rarest lenses to be found. That would leave only 142 of these lenses on Earth. And we have a pristine example here: serial # 241929. It is in marvelous condition and currently sits on a Nikon S2 -serial 6176411- with the original, equally rare, companion Stereo View Finder. This is a working, functioning, piece in amazing condition, as is the camera and finder. This is quite simply an Holy Grail in the world of stereo and rangefinder photography.
