Vintage Rangefinder Camera

For sale is a single family, two owner Leica M2 body, serial #M2-1062357. He was quite a character, who loved fine cameras, watches, wine, women and traveling. This camera was his constant companion in his travels across the U. S, Europe and Asia. The M2 eyepiece/viewfinder has greater magnification and is easier to use than the M3, especially if you wear eyeglasses. The frame lines work with 35/50/90 millimeter lenses, three of the most useful focal lengths for this format, unlike the M3 or other later Leica bodies. I have owned a few nice cameras, Hasselblads included, but none I’ve enjoyed as much. Its simplicity frees the mind. It feels right in the hands. It becomes an instinctive partner. This M2 body is mechanically in excellent condition, with all functions working as designed. Shutter curtain is intact with no rips, tears, pinholes or other light leaks. Film spool is present and in excellent condition. Viewfinder is clear, bright and aligned. Frame lines are bright, and preview works flawlessly. Shutter cock mechanism is solid and reliable throughout its throw and return. Shutter executes at all speeds, and is consistent at all speeds. Uncle Pinky told me that he had his Leica rig CLA’d in the late 1980s, but the L seal is intact. A quick note: I asked my long ago favorite camera mechanic, Wally, about this. He simply laughed and told me that it was not only possible, but probable. Cosmetically, this M2 is in very good to excellent condition. The leatherette is mostly intact, as clearly shown in the photographs. Below the lens, as well as area near base (by the base, right hand side), there is a small area where the leatherette has cracked and fallen off. The satin finish is in nice shape overall, with some visible flaws and user marks, the most obvious being the neck strap/ring rash. There are some of the usual bag marks on top, but nothing that distracts from one’s pride in ownership. Included is the original leather Leica carry strap. It’s in great condition, with the finish mostly intact, with a lovely patina on the brass rivets. I’ve confidently carried my Leica M2 rig using this minimalist strap. Leicameter MR is included. This wasn’t Uncle Pinky’s original Leicameter. It’s the later M4 era Leicameter MR. It’s clean, overall. The sensor lens is very clean, inside and out. I have used this meter quite successfully in the past, until I became comfortable estimating exposure with my favorite M2/film combination. It does need a new battery, easily obtainable, but I haven’t gotten around to replacing it to test it. So, the Leicameter is included, but with no battery and not tested. Also included is a. A set of original Leica M2 manuals, Full Instructions and Instructions in Brief. Also included is the Leicameter MR errata sheet. Manuals are clean and fully intact, with no dirt, foxing or other damage. Included in this listing is Leica M2 body with dust cap (& original Leica box for dust cap), original leather Leica carry strap, and untested Leicameter MR.
