1939 LEICA IIIa, 5cm ELMAR f/3.5 + 5cm BRIGHTLINE FINDER, HIGHTOP CASE & LIT SET

1939 LEICA IIIa, Model G, with 5cm ELMAR f/3.5. + 5cm BRIGHTLINE FINDER. With HIGHTOP CASE, & 1939 BROCHURE & INSTRUCTION BOOKS (complete set in prewar sleeve). This 1939 LEICA IIIa #343196 (from final prewar batch of IIIa bodies) is cosmetically very clean , no dings, a few very light bright marks on the top plate, one very small mark on the accessory shoe, a few more bright marks on the base, & that’s about it. Vulcanite is all there, original, deep black, firmly attached, no hollow spots or missing pieces. All speeds sound good including the slows. Blinds good, wind-on light and smooth, just as it should be. RF has second image, and while there’s a slight haze, the RF appears accurate & is quite useable. VF clear and bright. Comes with brass cassette (non-Leitz). 5cm f/3.5 ELMAR #802880 has a few light-moderate cleaning marks on the front lens surface which should not, however, impact the image produced. Otherwise, it’s clear and clean. The outer lens rim is slightly marked adjacent to aperture scale, but it’s minor. Barrel bright and shiny, usually an indicator of light use. Iris & focus are smooth & easy to operate, only the slightest traces of wear on the iris blades, no oil. Lens cap a trifle tight but will ease with use. 5cm BRIGHTLINE FINDER gives a strong image, no parts missing on the lines. It shows a little wear, and the barrel looks to have been reattached to the finder base at some point, but this is not very noticeable. The Hightop Screwmount Case (small 1/4 screw) is a nice example of the less common, extended lens-hood type. This case can accommodate a larger multi-finder (a VIDOM, for example), without needing to remove it. There’s a small (1/2 long) repair on one end of the back hinge, but otherwise it’s untouched. The strap is strong and shows almost zero wear. The ” Handle the LEICA ” Brochure and three Instruction Books are from a slightly earlier 1939 Leica IIIb (#289169), and include an inspection hang-tag (rarely seen). They are a complete set (most aren’t) and in near perfect condition. Matching serial numbers on top and inside the base. The Shutter works at all speeds and appears to be Very Accurate and the shutter blinds are perfect. The “Self-Timer” works and releases the shutter. The f: 1.5 Sonnar was considered at the time, the Very Best 5 c. The Black fine grained Genuine Morrocan leather covering is complete and is still in very close to new condition. The camera has the Blind Stamped ZEISS IKON Logo on the back.
