This was an intentional marketing strategy – a near indistinguishable appearance from the Leica IIs and IIIs at a fraction of Leica’s price! Showa Kogaku introduced the Leotax K in 1955 as an economy model of the Leotax F by removing the front mounted slow speed dial – but then added back the slow speed dial in late 1957 as the “K3″ model.
