EARLY BLACK/NICKEL 1933 LEICA III (Model F) with HEKTOR 50mm f/2.5, CAP, APDOO SELF-TIMER, CASE, 1930 AD, nr. This body was made in 1933 in the second batch of Leica Standards. However, it was converted to a Leica III (Model F) almost immediately, probably in 1933, perhaps within months of being made, and most certainly pre-1935. The small diameter baseplate latch (made bigger in 1933, starting with Leica III #111450), and. The small diameter shutter dial, which is rare and only found on very early Leica IIIs. The body is an export model – the baseplate wording is in English, the tripod mount is the small thread, and also “Germany” is engraved at the center front bottom of the body, where it’s covered by the baseplate. I have never seen this before. Date-wise, the Hektor is an exact match, so may well be the original lens that came with the body. This makes it a rare combination. Both body and lens are engraved with an “0” – i. They’re standardized, and will take almost any Leica screw mount lens. The Hektor was THE must-have fast lens of the early Leica era. It will still produce interesting and beautiful results, including when mounted to a digital body. This Leica III (Model F) #104798 is not quite mint, but is not too far off. Not film-tested, but camera appears to be working very well, seems to have had a CLA not too long ago. Very smooth wind-on, lovely actually, and all speeds sound accurate, inc. RF images are both bright and clear, no haze, the VF is the same. Diopter adjustment is working correctly. Cassette, may be non-Leitz but fits fine inside the body. Cosmetics: You have to look very hard to see any finish wear on top plate, top plate engravings not quite as bright as they should be, there are a few very small marks here and there, mainly on the edges, and one above the serial number, that’s about it. Vulcanite bright, no cracks or hollow spots, all firmly attached. Baseplate has a few light circular usage marks near the tripod mount, that’s about it. All nickel is near perfect, just a trace of wear on the baseplate catch. The Flat-nose Case is exceptional, inside and out. It’s among the best flat-nose cases I’ve seen. One mark on front, that’s all. Strap is original and still strong (not usual with this era of Leitz case). The 1933 5cm Hektor f/2.5 #168204 lens is clear, uncoated, a few dust spots and some very light cleaning marks on the front element. Controls all free and working well. Lens barrel has a few small marks here and there but is still quite shiny. Original bakelite cap is in mint condition, no cracks, fits snugly. APDOO Self-timer in black/chrome is near mint, working correctly, and comes with leather case and instructions in German. Leitz code word for the timer with its case is ASKOO. Leitz Magazine Ad is a half-page, 1930 I think, original, great shape, and includes a shot of the Byrd Antarctic Expedition (1928 – 1930). 1936 Leica Catalog is a reprint, perfect shape, never unwrapped. All in all, quite an interesting package of early Leica history which has a story to tell. Leicas that have been factory converted are generally valued in their final configuration. Collectiblend values the Leica III Mod. The item “BLACK/NICKEL 1933 LEICA III withHEKTOR 50mm f/2.5, APDOO TIMER, CASE, 1930 AD, NR” is in sale since Wednesday, April 18, 2018.
