1934 BLACK/NICKEL LEITZ LEICA III (Model F), #148186. With collectible Black-Rim SUMMAR f/2 5cm, probably non-standardized. Camera has “LUTZ FERRANDO, BUENOS AIRES” INSCRIPTION. EARLY SUMMAR #190592 comes with uncommon 1935 BROCHURE. All these inscriptions are very collectible. They include Tiranty in Paris “S-T”. Tiranty, “N-L” for Odin, Netherlands, and Lutz Ferrando in South America, Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro. There’s also Mont. Lutz Ferrando-inscribed Leica equipment is not often seen these days. The delicate Buenos Aires inscription in this body baseplate is in perfect condition. Summar is quite unusual. It was originally built as a Rigid Summer (Starre in German) in 1933, one of about 2,000 total, and then (like so many), it was converted to a collapsible mount. The black-rim Summars are early and uncommon, and I think the best looking of all the Summars. Leica III Model F camera is in lovely condition. Not far off mint. Top plate shiny, only a few small marks: on edge above slow speed dial, on top plate back by RF windows, small marks near serial number, and on accessory shoe. Slight edge wear on nickel knobs and the front of the slow-speed dial. Baseplate shows almost no wear, unusual. Vulcanite black & perfect, no loose, hollow or missing bits. Speeds all sound accurate. Wind on is a little heavy, body would probably benefit from a CLA. VF & RF and clean and bright. RF has pretty decent second image, appears accurate. With two brass cassettes (non-Leitz) in Leitz tubes and black strap. 1933 SUMMAR 5cm f2 is exceptional, shiny, almost unworn barrel. Very clean glass, uncoated. A little dust and a couple of very small spots inside and some VERY light cleaning marks on the front. No engraved “0”, so probably non-stardardised. Focus and iris are free. Bakelite cap mint, original, no cracks. Yellow Leitz FIGRO Gelbfilter 1 filter in Leitz red box is excellent. Fits 3.5, 5, 9, 10.5 and 13.5 cm lenses. ETNEU Outfit Case in great shape, except long strap shows some wear. The Clippers (huge luxurious flying boats that crossed the Atlantic and Pacific) were gone a few years after the war, I believe. The 1935 SUMMAR launch brochure is a genuine rarity and in great shape. The 1 938 “Modern Times” brochure shows some marks on the cover, but is otherwise excellent, as is the 1935 Filter brochure.
