Vintage Roland Rangefinder Film Camera. The Roland Kleinbild-Kamera is a coupled rangefinder camera for 4.5×6 cm exposures on 120 film, made from 1931 onwards. McKeown gives its maker as Plasmat GmbH, a company belonging to Paul Rudolph. [1] It has an uncoated 70 mm f/2.7 Plasmat lens, designed by Dr Rudolph, mounted on a collapsing lens-tube. Focusing is by twisting a knurled collar at the body end of the lens; the camera focuses to about one meter. The camera is vertically-oriented; the film runs from the top to the bottom, and the coupled rangefinder, combined with the viewfinder, is at the top, across the shorter dimension of the body. Roland Kleinbild Model 1 Rangefinder w/ Plasmat 70mm f/2.7 Lens Serial No. The front element shows moderate signs of use and cleaning marks. It is free of haze, fungus, and mold. There is what appears to be light smudging in the lens, likely from cleaning by the previous owner. Similar to cleaning fingerprints off a lens with a microfiber cloth that also has fingerprints on it.. The rear element shows minimal use, with 1 or 2 1mm scratches. I will update photos to show this soon. A piece of glass used in the rangefinder mechanism has fallen off of its adhesive. I opened up the rangefinder box and placed it in a plastic bag for safekeeping (see last 3 photos). Nothing is broken, it has simply come unglued. A small piece of leather opposite of the rewind mechanism. Shutter speeds appear to work fine until 1/25s and below. The shutter stays open too long under 1/25s. Lens does not retract back into the camera body. Given the lack of information on this camera, it may be due to user error but I highly doubt this. The lens has seen moderate use, but is perfectly useable. The camera overall needs a CLA to clean the inside of the lens, re-glue the piece of glass previously mentioned, adjust shutter speeds at and below 1/25s, and restore the retracting ability of the lens.
