Welcome to my listing for a Schneider-Kreuznach Xenar f2.8 50mm lens in M39 mount for Braun Paxette , serial number 5519274. Overview: An impressively well engineered, all brass constructed lens produced by Schneider-Kreuznach for the Braun Paxette. The serial number suggests this lens dates from 1958. Of a classic Tessar type optical design they produce alluring images with an interesting vintage rendering and a quite striking bubbly bokeh in backlit situations as you will see from the samples below. Probably one of the highest quality lenses supplied for the Paxette. Overall Condition: Good with some traces of use to the chromed lens body and a little paint loss on the black painted depth of field scale. Supplied with generic lens caps. Please study the photographs as these form part of this description and depict the external condition accurately. Optical Condition: Very good, although I can see the slightest of cleaning scratches on the front element that are very hard to see unless viewed from behind with a bright light, these are invisible in the images produced. I can also see the odd speck internal dust that you would expect for a lens of this age. Mechanical Operation: The 15 aperture blades show a slight race of oil in the centre but are smooth in operation with soft aperture clicks, focus control is also smooth and consistent but perhaps slightly on the firm side, if I was to be very critical. Real World Use: Probably one of the sharpest lenses I have ever used, even when wide open and I love the bokeh produced by these Xenars, very reminiscent of the Meyer Optik Trioplan f2.9 50mm, in fact I have rarely used a lens with so much character! Adaptable to modern mirrorless cameras and range-finders alike, but please note, Braun Paxettes have a lens flange distance of 44mm which is 15.2mm longer than standard M39 lenses so a 15.2mm extension tube is required to focus to infinity on M39 mount cameras or adaptors. In fact any 15mm long M39 extension tube will also do the trick. All in all, a rewarding lens to shoot with producing images with a classic vintage feel, and of course that crazy bokeh! Sample Images: All the images below are shot wide open at f2.8 on either a Sony A7s or Panasonic GH4 for the closer blossom images. Thank you for looking.
